      Product Description:
Torbreck The Factor Shiraz 2023 is a powerful old-vine Barossa Shiraz that pays tribute to the growers who tend the region’s historic vineyards. The name “The Factor” refers to the manager of a Highland estate, continuing Torbreck’s long-standing Scottish naming tradition. This wine is sourced from select old-vine Shiraz vineyards along the Barossa Valley’s Western Ridge, a part of the region known for producing deeply concentrated and long-lived wines. Many of the old vineyards that inspire The Factor were planted in the 19th century and survive on their own roots, untouched by phylloxera. The 2023 vintage was shaped by above-average winter and spring rainfall, a cooler summer and a later harvest, resulting in low-yielding fruit with bright colour, natural acidity and strong detail across the palate. Fruit for The Factor is hand-harvested and fermented in traditional open-top fermenters, with extended skin contact to build depth, flavour and tannin structure.

After fermentation, the wine is basket-pressed and matured for 24 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barriques. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered, preserving the bold, brooding and expressive character of Barossa Shiraz. Aromatically, the wine is highly expressive, showing lifted black fruits, satsuma plum, blackberry compote, maraschino cherry, vanilla bean, dark cocoa, black tea and espresso grounds. Beneath the fruit, mineral notes of Barossa ironstone, dried earth and eucalypt add further complexity. The palate is dense, voluptuous and mouth-filling, with soft yet substantial tannins and impressive length. Oak maturation is harmonious and well integrated, supporting the wine’s richness without overwhelming its fruit. Built for long ageing, this modern Barossa classic is expected to develop beautifully over more than two decades.

      Reviews & Accolades
“The 2023 The Factor is a celebration of old-vine vineyards in the Barossa Valley, and this sourcing philosophy is clear in this wine. The Barossa is capable of great density, power, intensity and focus, and this wine here shows all of these things. The cool, wet and late season that was 2023 has yielded a wine of saturated red fruit flavor and freshness. I like it so much. 15.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.” — Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, 96 Points

“Lush and inviting, ripe and floral, with blackberry fruit and some saltiness. There’s a rich texture and density here with fresh fruit.” — Jamie Goode, Wine Anorak, 95 Points
