Kilikanoon was establised in 1997 when proprietor and winemaker Kevin Mitchell purchased the property of the same name in the hamlet of Penwortham in South Australia’s picturesque Clare Valley. Hailing from a long line of wine grape growers, Kevin now had the opportunity to turn the vision of creating his own wine brand into a reality.
A 100% single vineyard wine, hand selected from the traditionally pruned bush vine Kelly vineyard in Sevenhill, planted in 1932. At Kilikanoon, they know great wines always start in the vineyard, but once this small parcel of fruit arrives at their winery, it is vinified in a small open fermenter and allowed extended time on skins. After basket pressing to seasoned French oak puncheons and hogsheads, the wine is allowed to mature for 15 months in the cellar.
