Extraordinary concentration and timeless elegance define this legendary Sauternes from the historic estate of Château d’Yquem. The 2017 vintage was produced under challenging Bordeaux conditions, yet Château d’Yquem emerged untouched by the devastating frosts that affected much of the region, allowing the estate to craft a wine of remarkable purity and balance. Harvested through multiple selective passes across the vineyard, the fruit achieved exceptional botrytis development, resulting in a wine with both opulence and striking freshness. The blend is predominantly Sémillon with a smaller proportion of Sauvignon Blanc, sourced from the estate’s gravel-rich slopes in Sauternes.
In the glass, the wine displays extraordinary aromatic precision, revealing layers of candied citrus, apricot, white peach and exotic spice wrapped around the estate’s hallmark minerality. Despite its immense sweetness and concentration, the 2017 retains crystalline acidity and remarkable lift, giving the wine an almost weightless sense of energy. The palate unfolds slowly with notes of orange marmalade, honey, ginger and tropical fruits, supported by a vibrant citrus backbone and seamless oak integration. Château d’Yquem’s meticulous vineyard selection and uncompromising winemaking standards are evident throughout, with only the finest parcels contributing to the final blend. The texture is luxurious yet finely controlled, carrying immense depth without heaviness. As with the greatest vintages of Yquem, the finish is extraordinarily persistent, echoing spice, stone fruit and noble botrytis for minutes. This is a profound Sauternes with the structure and balance to evolve gracefully for decades, rewarding both patient cellaring and contemplative drinking.

“The incredibly rich, unctuous sweetness (148 grams per liter of residual sugar) is beautifully marbled with bright, vivacious citrus fruit and spice flavors, while lifted by well-knit freshness, and it finishes with epic length and great depth.”
“The tannins and phenolic tension are very impressive to this. Dried-lemon undertones and burning botrytis. Full-to medium-bodied, linear and racy. Beautiful fruit and intensity. Such clarity. Extreme but wonderful style.”
“It has a very harmonious bouquet with white peaches, orange sorbet, white flowers and a touch of crushed stone.”
