Nero d'Avola got its start in Australia in 2001 when Chalmers imported a single vine from its home in Sicily, which has now evolved into more than 200,000 vines planted throughout the country. Having found a natural home in the red brick soils of Heathcote, the 2019 Chalmers Nero d'Avola provides a balance between the harder herbal and dark cherry flavours typical of Nero and the prettier, lighter style that the site offers. Deliberately made in a crunchy, juicy style this wine is delicious with a variety of foods and can benefit from being slightly chilled.

I like the fact this is is sweet-fruited and generally juicy but that it also has an edge, both a tanginess and a dustiness, as well as slips of leather. It’s not overly complex and yet it calls on various parts of your mouth, and in the process both complements food and sets you up for it. Boxes ticks. It achieves all of its goals. - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
