V&A Lane is a long, straight road that dissects Coonawarra’s famous terra rossa strip at its midpoint. Surveyed in 1851, the lane divides the original electorates of Victoria and Albert, and the area is celebrated for exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz wines.
A fascinating wine, with the lowish alcohol (12.8%) and reductive handling, brushed with a sensitive application of oak, giving a nudge and a wink to fashionable regions, particularly those in Victoria. Blueberry, iodine, violet and olive paste notes are strung along a beam of peppery acidity and clove-doused tannins, moderate but palpably grippy.
