The Vietti family has been producing wine in Castiglione Falletto in the heart of Le Langhe in Piedmont for five generations, with 33 estate vineyards located across all 11 communes designated for the cultivation and production of Barolo, plus Roero for Arneis and Agliano Asti for Barbera and Moscato.
Grapes for the Vietti Barolo Castiglione 2017 vintage are from small but very important vineyards scattered in the various municipalities of the Barolo area, with the age of the vines between 10 and 43 years. The soil is calcareous-clayey and the Guyot training system with an average density of about 4,500 plants per hectare. All the individual crus are vinified and aged separately, in different ways in order to individually enhance the typical characteristics of each "terroir".
After about 30 months of aging in barriques and large casks, all crus are vinified individually and then assembled before bottling.
Medium-depth red/purple colour, bright and glowing. The bouquet is impressively powerful and ripe, rich and multi-faceted, with high notes of mint and balsamic herbs typical of this region. Background spices, too: a glorious fragrance. The wine has impressive impact on the palate, is very full-bodied and powerful, making a massive statement for an entry-level Barolo. Great concentration and drive, phenomenal persistence and exquisite flavour. A very striking Barolo that is already drinking beautifully. - Huon Hooke, The Real Review, 13 April, 2021, 96 Points
