      Product Description:
Torbreck RunRig Shiraz Viognier 2023 is one of the estate’s flagship Barossa Valley releases, built around old dry-grown Shiraz and a small addition of Viognier. RunRig is often compared with the fragrant, structured Syrah-based wines of Côte-Rôtie, while also carrying the richness and depth associated with powerful Barossa Shiraz. The 2023 vintage reflects a cooler, wetter and later growing season, with harvest taking place around a month later than usual for many vineyards. Torbreck notes that this season produced wines with bright colour, freshness, natural acidity and strong longevity potential.

The wine is produced from six distinguished old-vine Shiraz vineyards in the Barossa Valley, with some plantings exceeding 170 years of age. Each parcel is hand-harvested, destemmed and fermented separately in traditional open-top fermenters before being basket pressed. The wine is matured for approximately 30 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barriques. A small proportion of Viognier is blended prior to bottling to enhance aromatic lift and complexity. Bottled unfiltered, the 2023 RunRig preserves intensity, purity and site expression. The result is a dense, structured and deeply layered Barossa red with dark fruit power, floral nuance, savoury detail and the balance to age gracefully for decades. Product information verified from Torbreck official product page.

      Reviews & Accolades
“The 2023 RunRig came from a cool, wet and late season, and the wine tastes so clearly both like RunRig and like 2023. It is savory and dense, powerful and concentrated, and the 1% Viognier (added, not co-fermented) contributes a gentle sway of flowers and dried apricots to the mix. This is a wonderful wine, one that ages with grace and ease. Last year, I did a vertical of the RunRig back to the first vintage, 1996, and the wine revealed itself to be sensitive to vintage variation yet true to its regional sourcing and identity. The fruit for this wine comes from six old-vine vineyards in the Barossa, each chosen for its textural, structural and flavor attributes. 15.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.” — Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, 97 Points

“This is luscious and fine with black cherry and blackberry fruit, showing amazing texture, and a spicy framing to the fruit. It’s still quite primary with lovely fruit and a nice grainy structure.” — Jamie Goode, Wineanorak, 96 Points
