Refined power and structural clarity define this flagship Hunter Valley Shiraz from one of the region’s most respected producers. The 2023 Thomas Wines Kiss Shiraz is sourced from the historic Pokolbin Estate vineyard, planted in 1969, where old vines yield naturally low crops of intensely concentrated fruit. The 2023 vintage delivered ripe, expressive Shiraz while retaining the hallmark freshness and balance for which the Hunter Valley is renowned. Crafted with a focus on purity and longevity, the wine was fermented with care and matured for approximately 16 months in French oak hogsheads, a portion of which were new, allowing complexity to build without masking site expression. In the glass, it reveals depth and authority, yet remains composed and precise. Dark fruit intensity is framed by fine, structural tannins and bright acidity, giving the wine both immediate impact and long-term promise. Savoury nuances and spice add dimension, reflecting both vineyard age and thoughtful élevage. This is a Shiraz of confidence rather than excess, showing concentration, restraint and harmony. It is a benchmark release that will reward extended cellaring while offering serious appeal in its youth.

“This wine befits its flagship status, a perfect exhibition of concentration and class. Intense dark fruit sits within a sculpted structural frame, with tannin, acidity and fruit power perfectly proportioned. Bright, energetic and built to age gracefully.”

      — Toni Paterson MW, Halliday Wine Companion, 97 points, 2025

“Authoritative and assured, this is a superb release. It delivers flavour, structure and character in equal measure, with cherry-plum fruit, toast, spice and earth carried long through the finish. Firm, bold and elegant all at once.”

      Thomas Wines

Andrew Thomas, the founder and winemaker behind Thomas Wines, was destined for a career in wine, given his family’s deep roots in the industry. His father, Wayne Thomas, had a distinguished career in McLaren Vale, where Andrew’s passion for fine wine began. Despite early training for a possible winemaking career in South Australia, Andrew's fascination shifted towards the more subtle, savoury wines of the Hunter Valley. After completing his Oenology degree at Roseworthy Agricultural College, Andrew honed his winemaking skills under the mentorship of the legendary Murray Tyrrell at Tyrrell's Wines, where he learned the intricacies of Hunter Valley’s signature varieties, Semillon and Shiraz.

Andrew’s drive to create world-class wines under his own label led to the founding of Thomas Wines in 1997. Since then, he has developed close relationships with local growers, working with some of the most distinguished vineyards in the Hunter Valley. His focus has always been on crafting wines that showcase the unique expression of each vineyard. With meticulous attention to detail, Andrew continues to create wines that are a true reflection of their terroir, maintaining a commitment to producing wines of exceptional quality and regional character.
