Old vine Eden Valley Shiraz, in masterful, high-definition focus. Dan Standish’s Lamella is never just a Shiraz—it’s a statement. Sourced from a single ancient Eden Valley vineyard, this 2017 release reflects Dan’s uncompromising pursuit of purity and poise. Fermented in small open oak vats, each parcel is vinified separately, then subjected to ruthless selection; only the most extraordinary barrels make it to bottle.

The result is a wine that’s both grand and detailed. Lamella’s dark-fruited intensity is balanced by haunting floral lift and savoury spice, its plush texture tempered by a cool mineral line. It’s Barossa Shiraz, but with the precision and finesse of Grand Cru Burgundy—something only Standish seems able to pull off.

Cellar this for a decade if you can. Or decant now and witness its unfolding.

      Trusted by the professionals

Even at this stage, the ’17 Lamella is spectacular... Full-bodied, ineffably complete with a velvet mouthfeel... Breathtaking in its infancy.

      — Stuart McCloskey, 98–100 Points

Layers of red and blue fruit, black olives and espresso... Full-bodied and silky but taut... a long, dusty finish.

      — Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, 98 Points

      The Standish

Founded in 1999 by sixth-generation Barossan Dan Standish, The Standish Wine Company is a small-batch producer with serious intent. After refining his craft at Torbreck and in the vineyards of the Rhône, Rioja and Sonoma, Dan returned to South Australia to focus on site-driven Shiraz from Eden and Barossa Valleys.

Each vineyard parcel is fermented separately, and up to 80% of the blend may be discarded—only the most compelling barrels make the final cut. It’s a fiercely selective approach that delivers wines of both clarity and depth, intensity and finesse.

Alongside Dan, Nicole Standish drives the technical and viticultural precision that underpins the brand. Together they favour whole-bunch ferments, wild yeasts, natural cork, and extended élevage in French oak (18–22 months). These choices shape Lamella into a distinctive expression of site: structured, aromatic, and built to age.

      Tasting notes

      NOSE
      Dark and lifted

Blackberry, bacon fat and dried spice leap from the glass with violets and olive tapenade close behind.

      PALATE
      Silken power

A rich surge of plum, mulberry and boysenberry is layered with chocolate, graphite and peppery spice.

      FINISH
      Powdery and persistent

Long and detailed, with fine savoury tannins, ground spice and a mouth-coating mineral thread.
