Springbank 5 Year Old 100 Proof is a youthful, high-strength Campbeltown single malt created to showcase the distinctive character of Springbank’s spirit with minimal influence from secondary maturation or heavily seasoned oak. Introduced as an addition to the distillery’s core range, the expression is scheduled to be bottled and released quarterly. Every release follows a consistent maturation specification using 100% ex-bourbon casks. The whisky is aged for five years before being bottled at 57.1% ABV, the strength traditionally described as 100 proof under the former British proof system. Its bourbon-cask maturation allows Springbank’s oily texture, cereal richness, coastal minerality and lightly peated character to remain at the forefront. Springbank produces this spirit using lightly peated barley and its distinctive two-and-a-half-times distillation process. 

Production is carried out entirely at the Campbeltown distillery, from the traditional floor malting of the barley through to bottling and labelling. The distillery does not chill filter its whisky or add artificial colouring, helping preserve the natural texture and character developed during production and maturation. On the nose, the whisky opens brightly with green apple, gorse, wine gums and a firm mineral quality. The palate balances gentle peat smoke with sweet notes of icing sugar and white chocolate before developing more savoury impressions of tomato plant, sunflower seeds and linseed oil. Honey and gooseberry notes emerge through the finish, providing sweetness and freshness against the whisky’s robust strength. Despite its relatively young age, its high bottling strength and spirit-forward profile give it notable intensity and presence. The result is a lively and characterful expression that offers a direct view of Springbank’s maritime, lightly smoky and traditionally produced single malt style.
