The 2021 Diageo Special & Rare collection is known as "Fables Untold", drawn from some of Scotland’s most interesting, legendary distilleries and curated by Master Blender Dr Craig Wilson, portrays the otherworldly beings which have fiercely protected the heartlands of remote Scottish distilleries for an eternity, according to our ancient fables and the mythical creatures come to life revealing their true characters. This year each bottle has its own unique QR code which, when scanned, takes you on a multi-sensory experience that tells you the story of the whisky, the mythical creature behind the artwork, and gives you some tasting notes to prompt your nose and palate along the way. 

Royal Lochnagar 16 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky "The Spring Stallion" as the fable goes, the lands of the Royal Deeside were blanketed by a thick and chilling fog until a proud stallion, white as snow, tore through the icy veil. Majestic in every stride and immortal in his being, the stallion glowed with the warmth of spring. Ice melted under hoof. Grass sprung to life. In this tale of winter's undoing, the stallion's rolling gallop powered the stills of Royal Lochnagar, giving this Scotch the spritely freshness of spring. Born simply as 'Lochnagar', in 1848 Queen Victoria tasted the delicate whisky with such appreciation that it earned the distillery its "Royal" name. One of the smallest distilleries in Scotland, it retains its original approach to crafting smooth and honeyed whiskies prized by those fortunate to find themselves with a dram.

Golden as the sun, this vivid malt surges with aromas that hint of orange zest and green apple on a mossy base. It rolls across the palate with a rich and creamy-smooth texture, an intense barley-sugar sweetness with a luscious fruity acidity. Water brings up a touch of white grapes, growing smoother still. The lengthy finish warming, glazed like winter's end. A lush, vivid Scotch that glows with springtime freshness.

Bottled at 57.5% from American oak and European oak refill casks.
