Product Description:
Classic Australian winemaking tradition, vineyard heritage and remarkable drinkability define this enduring Barossa blend from one of the region’s most respected family-owned producers. The Rockford Rod & Spur Shiraz Cabernet 2022 celebrates the historic partnership between Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, a blend that has long been regarded as one of Australia’s great red wine styles. Named after the traditional rod and spur method of vine pruning, the wine reflects Rockford’s deep commitment to preserving time-honoured viticultural and winemaking practices. Fruit is sourced from carefully selected Barossa vineyards, with Shiraz contributing richness, spice and generosity while Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure, freshness and aromatic lift.
Produced using traditional techniques and matured in seasoned oak, the wine captures the balance and regional character that have made the Rod & Spur a longstanding favourite among Australian wine enthusiasts. The 2022 vintage displays vibrant fruit purity alongside savoury complexity, offering immediate appeal while retaining the structure for medium-term cellaring. Layers of dark berries, mint, spice and subtle earthiness unfold across a finely balanced palate supported by polished tannins. Medium-bodied and approachable, it combines generosity with restraint, making it exceptionally versatile at the table. The wine is an excellent companion to grilled lamb, roast beef, charcuterie and mature hard cheeses. Its combination of fruit, freshness and structure highlights the enduring appeal of this quintessential Australian blend.

Reviews & Accolades
“Shiraz and Cabernet, the classic Aussie blend, and gee, it works well. Blackberry, blackcurrant, raspberry, some mint, a little tobacco along with some liquorice. It’s medium-bodied, soft and approachable, with fine-grained tannin, a minty black and red fruited succulence, balanced acidity, and while it’s kind of juicy, it also has the rather fetching autumnal character about it, along with a chocolate box richness, and a finish of excellent length. A little raw almond carries on the finish. Supple, charming, and very nice to drink.” — Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, 93 Points
