Traditional Barossa craftsmanship, regional heritage and remarkable textural complexity define this distinctive Australian Semillon from one of the country's most respected family-owned wineries. The Rockford Local Growers Semillon 2024 is sourced from a network of dedicated Barossa growers whose vineyards preserve some of the oldest Semillon plantings in the world. Semillon has been part of the Barossa landscape since the earliest European settlement of the region more than 160 years ago, thriving in the Mediterranean climate and ancient soils of South Australia. Rockford’s long-standing relationships with local growers ensure access to low-yielding vineyards that consistently produce fruit of exceptional concentration and character.
The wine is crafted using traditional methods that have become synonymous with the Rockford philosophy, including maturation in a combination of seasoned oak casks, hogsheads and an unwooded component aged on fine lees. This approach builds texture and complexity while preserving freshness and varietal purity. The 2024 vintage showcases the rich yet restrained style for which Barossa Semillon is renowned, balancing ripe citrus fruit with savoury nuances and a distinctive waxy texture. Bright natural acidity provides energy and structure, supporting the wine's impressive ageing potential. While beautifully expressive in its youth, this Semillon will continue to evolve gracefully in bottle, developing additional complexity over the coming decade. It pairs wonderfully with grilled seafood, roast chicken, fresh salads and lightly spiced Asian dishes.
