In late 2000, while walking along the beach one stormy spring day, with the dark clouds rolling in over the rising swells of the Gulf of St. Vincent, the team at RockBare sought refuge under the bare rock on the wild foreshores of Port Willunga, McLaren Vale. The name RockBare emerged. This name was soon transformed into reality and so began their journey with RockBare McLaren Vale Shiraz.
The RockBare Tideway Shiraz Roussanne 2017 vintage is magenta in colour with a light purple hue. The nose is complex - dark fruit cake, fragrant spice, and cured meats, balanced with lifted floral notes from the co-ferment with Roussane. The palate has both brooding dark fruit sweetness and a savour aspect with dried spices and charcuterie meats. This wine is one to ponder, discuss over dinner, it has poise, complexity and length.
Darker berries, cloves, dry spices, a gently savoury aspect and a boiled lolly note. It gives both fruit sweetness and savouriness a kick. It can go without saying but there are gum leaf flavours here too; indeed they’re quite prominent. You certainly couldn’t quibble over the volume of flavour here, nor with its neat-and-tidiness. - Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front
