Poderi Luigi Einaudi Dogliano Dolcetto DOCG 2020
Founded by Luigi Einaudi, during his time as Governor of Banca d’Italia and President of Italy after the second world war, it is said he never missed a harvest! His son Roberto succeeded him, but it was Roberto’s daughter Paola, on her return from Milano to Dogliani at the end of the 1980s, who with tenacity, enthusiasm and significant investment, re-launched this historic brand and went about improving wine quality.
A traditional wine, easy to drink, which comes from a blend of Dolcetto grapes from the vineyards of the Einaudi estates which surround Dogliani. In particular in the vineyards positioned in the hills of San Luigi, San Giacomo and Madonna delle Grazie. In the Dogliani area this traditional varietal reaches its maximal tipicity. Ruby red in colour, which tends toward violet with a rich fruity bouquet, full bodied with an intense aroma of undergrowth and a pleasantly tannic taste, with a slight almond note, typical of this varietal.
Deepish red/purple colour, with a nutty, toasty, savoury note leading the aromas, background raspberry and blackberry beneath. The wine opens with crisp acidity and rich but straightforward blueberry and mulberry flavours; a medium-bodied wine at most, with a firm backing of tannin that will enable it to stand up to flavoursome food. A superior sort of dolcetto, for sure, with some structure. Huon Hooke, The Real Review.
