Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Maltroie 2023 is a powerful yet finely sculpted Chardonnay that captures the depth, texture and mineral precision of this highly regarded Premier Cru vineyard in the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet. La Maltroie is known for producing wines that combine richness and concentration with vibrant acidity and structural tension, particularly in the hands of meticulous growers such as Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey. Widely recognised as one of Burgundy’s leading modern white wine producers, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is celebrated for his restrained élevage, precise vineyard work and unwavering commitment to terroir transparency. The 2023 vintage delivered ripe fruit balanced by vivid natural acidity, resulting in wines of both generosity and remarkable freshness.

In the glass, the wine reveals an expressive and layered profile built around citrus blossom, orchard fruit and crushed stone minerality. The palate is textural and expansive yet remains remarkably focused, driven by a bright silver thread of acidity that carries the wine effortlessly across the palate. Notes of orange zest, ripe pear and white peach unfold alongside hints of toasted almond, wet limestone and delicate spice. There is notable depth and concentration through the mid-palate, balanced by saline tension and carefully integrated oak influence. The finish is long, energetic and mineral-driven, lingering with both precision and quiet power. Sophisticated and highly age-worthy, this Premier Cru Chardonnay pairs beautifully with lobster, turbot, scallops or refined poultry dishes with cream-based sauces.

The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Maltroie 1er Cru has a composed and beautifully defined bouquet with orange blossom, crushed stone and light citrus scents, gradually gaining intensity in the glass. The palate has wonderful texture, slightly honeyed with immense depth and a counterbalancing silver thread of acidity. The finish has real power and drive, but it never forgets to deliver precision and finesse. Bon vin.

      Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

Established as one of the young rising stars of Burgundy, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey in 2005 left his family Domaine, Marc Colin, where he gained a solid reputation for his outstanding white wines. Pierre-Yves took control of a share of the family vineyards (Domaine Marc Colin) from 2006 vintage. His first vintages have been made from vineyards and growers that he works closely with buying the wine as must and aging the wines in barrels which he has supplied. If the resulting wines meet his standards the barrels of wine purchased are then matured in his own cold cellar below his house in Chassagne Montrachet.

“This is not just one of the top domaines in the Cote de Beaune in Burgundy, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is now well recognised as one of the greatest winemakers and domaines in the world. Consistently producing benchmark wines in each vintage.”

The Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey estate was born in 2001 from the association of Pierre-Yves Colin (son of Marc) and Caroline Morey (daughter of Jean-Marc). Today they operate 13 hectares in the villages of Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault. Their production consists of 92% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Noir and 3% of Aligoté grape variety. Working about 2 hectares from the family heritage, the other plots have come from different acquisitions over the last fifteen years, as well as a few plots in Fermages.
