The Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay Vertical Trio brings together the 2017, 2018 and 2019 vintages of Australia’s most ambitious Chardonnay project. Conceived as the white counterpart to Grange, Yattarna represents decades of refinement, selectively sourcing Chardonnay from the country’s finest cool-climate vineyards, including Tasmania, Tumbarumba and the Adelaide Hills. Its name, derived from an Indigenous Australian word meaning “little by little, gradually”, reflects the patient evolution of a wine style defined by precision, restraint and longevity.
Presented as a vertical collection, this trio offers a rare opportunity to explore the subtle influence of vintage on one of Australia's most collectible white wines. The 2017 release showcases purity and understated power, with citrus-driven fruit and seamless texture. The 2018 vintage leans into mineral tension and cool-climate finesse, while 2019 combines concentration and structure with remarkable energy and length. Together, these wines reveal Yattarna’s distinctive balance of fruit, acidity, lees complexity and carefully integrated French oak.
For collectors, enthusiasts and lovers of world-class Chardonnay, this vertical provides an illuminating snapshot of Penfolds’ pursuit of excellence. Equally compelling as a cellar-worthy acquisition or a comparative tasting experience, it pairs beautifully with lobster, scallops, roast chicken or refined seafood dishes.

“Best Yattarna yet. Opens with a fanfare of aromas and flavours, and increases its impact through to the incredibly long finish and aftertaste.”
“Grand Cru Australian Chardonnay without a doubt.”
“The tension, endurance and sheer, molecular detail of Yattarna propels it to the pinnacle of Australia’s pointy chardonnay pyramid.”
Penfolds has been a pioneer in the world of winemaking since its establishment in 1844 by Dr. Christopher and Mary Penfold. The company's success has been driven by a lineage of visionary winemakers who have pushed the development of the company to extraordinary, bold new heights. Mary Penfold's reign at the helm of Penfolds saw years of determination and endeavour, experimenting with new methods in wine production. In 1948, Max Schubert became the company's first Chief Winemaker and he propelled Penfolds onto the global stage with his experimentation of long-lasting wines - the creation of Penfolds Grange in the 1950s. Soon, the medals began flowing, and Grange quickly became one of the most revered wines around the world. In 2012, Penfolds released its most innovative project to date - 12 handcrafted ampoules of the rare 2004 Kalimna Block Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, Penfolds continues to hold dear the philosophies and legends that have driven the company's success since its establishment in 1844.
At Penfolds, winemaking is not just about producing wine; it is about creating something extraordinary that endures. The philosophy behind Penfolds is grounded in a balance between tradition and innovation. Every bottle is a reflection of this philosophy, blending the art of winemaking with scientific precision and modern technology. Penfolds’ commitment to quality has seen generations of winemakers continually refine their craft, while their constant curiosity drives them to experiment and explore new possibilities. Penfolds wines are a celebration of the unique Australian terroir, harnessing the country’s diverse regions to produce wines of exceptional character and complexity.
Penfolds’ philosophy extends beyond just the winemaking process—it’s about creating wines that can be enjoyed today or cellared for future generations. With a focus on balance, structure, and depth, every bottle is designed to stand the test of time. Whether it’s a rich, full-bodied red or a crisp, elegant white, Penfolds wines are crafted to bring people together, to inspire conversations, and to be savoured and shared. Their ability to evolve and adapt, while maintaining a consistent commitment to quality, has solidified Penfolds as one of the world’s most respected and celebrated winemakers.
Layers of lime leaf, grapefruit, white peach, Granny Smith apple, wet stone, flint, cashew and subtle lees-derived creaminess unfold across the three vintages.
Citrus, stone fruit and mineral flavours are framed by vibrant acidity, fine texture and seamlessly integrated French oak, delivering depth without excess weight.
Exceptionally long, focused and poised, with chalky mineral tension, saline freshness and lingering citrus persistence.
