The initials RWT stand for ‘Red Winemaking Trial’, the internal name given to the project when development first began in 1995. Naturally, now no longer a ‘trial’, RWT Shiraz was launched in May 2000 with the 1997 vintage. Its has a fleshy and opulent style, contrasting with Grange, which is more assertive and muscular. RWT is produce from fruit primarily selected for its plush texture and aromatic qualities. The resulting wine helping to redefine Barossa shiraz at the highest quality level. RWT wines area built for the long haul, with the precision, concentration and balance to age for many years.
All French oak (51% new, the balance 1yo) and plenty of perfume on offer here, raspberry, blackberry and red plum, really fragrant fruit that is accented by additional oak fragrance. The palate has tangy cut, slightly jumpy, quite taut - the vintage has this captive for now. Time will see it unwind and there's a bright wine that has plenty of Barossa power built in - give this time. - James Suckling
