First made in 1960, this was the wine that helped to build Penfolds reputation with red wine drinkers. Combining the structure of Cabernet with the richness of Shiraz, Bin 389 also exemplifies Penfolds skill in balancing fruit and oak.
“Severely oaked but excellent nonetheless, this is the kind of wine that makes 389 so beloved. There’s a cloud of vanillin oak, probably too much, but there’s also lots of herbal blackcurrant and blueberry fruit, with exquisite far-reaching tannins and flips of juicy acidity. Tight, flavoursome, and finishing with a push of bitter chocolate” 92 points Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
