Mount Mary Quintet 2019

Mount Mary produces premium quality table wines from a single vineyard estate in the heart of the Yarra Valley. Established in 1971, three generations of the Middleton family have dedicated themselves to wines of elegance, longevity and distinction. The Quintet blend is the flagship wine for the Mount Mary Estate. It represents the initial vision of Dr John Middleton when he was discovering the unique site that is Mount Mary. 

The Mount Mary vineyard is planted to Cabernet sauvignon (50%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet franc (15%), Malbec (5%) and Petit verdot (5%). The percentage of each variety that goes into the final blend changes with the season as factors such as fruitfulness and fruit set vary. The greatest influence they have over the quality of this wine is deciding when to pick each variety. This determines not only the flavours but the quality of tannins, the acid and alcohol levels. 

My word. Head-spinning perfume, pencils and spice, rich deep dark berry flavour, aniseed and almond paste. Medium-bodied, density delivered with effortless elegance, delicious nutty chew to its carpet of ripe tannin, a mix of red and black fruits, and an exotic character to a finish of outstanding length.
