Six bottles of vintage Champagne shaped by the season and the cellar. Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 2016 marks the House’s 77th vintage release, born of a year that tested both vineyard and vintner. Defined by unpredictable conditions and aged six years in the cellar, this wine is a masterclass in balance and restraint. A Champagne that speaks with quiet assurance.
The 2016 vintage reveals a confident structure and generous texture, led by Pinot Noir with Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier in support. Notes of white peach, jasmine and brioche lead into a supple palate of aniseed, melon and fennel, underlined by a persistent freshness. Presented here as a six-bottle collection, it’s a layered, radiant Champagne made for thoughtful toasts or refined seasonal pairings — especially shellfish, chicken or soft cheeses.
Maker:
The legendary Moët & Chandon is celebrating 280 years as the world’s most loved champagne. For over a quarter of a millennium, the renowned French winemaker has been sharing the magic of champagne across the globe. Every glass overflows with the House’s hallmark values of history, generosity, savoir-faire, success, boldness and elegance—values still at the heart of its global appeal. Toward the end of the 18th century, Jean-Remy Moët, grandson of founder Claude Moët, became famous as the man who introduced champagne to the world. The important figures of the era, from the Marquise de Pompadour to Talleyrand to Napoleon quickly fell in love with the House’s effervescent wine. Moët & Chandon was soon the icon of success and elegance that it remains to this day.
The Vineyard/Philosophy:
At Moët & Chandon, the philosophy behind the Grand Vintage is to create a champagne that is more than just a product of nature but a true expression of craftsmanship and artistry. The Cellar Master’s interpretation of the year’s harvest is vital in shaping the wine’s profile, as each vintage is crafted from the best grapes selected from the Champagne House’s vast network of vineyards. While every vintage is unique, Moët & Chandon maintains a commitment to producing champagnes that are elegant, refined, and of the highest quality. The Grand Vintage series is a perfect reflection of this philosophy, offering a rare opportunity to taste the personal vision of Moët & Chandon’s winemakers, year after year.
Nose - Subtle Herbs, Apple, Jasmine
A tender and vegetal bouquet. The nose first expresses itself with restraint, subtly hinting a soft and fresh white-green spectrum of fruits. Initial notes of breadcrumbs, fresh brioche and almond paste give way to elderflower and jasmine, then to fruit such as white peach and watermelon.
Palate - Floral, Fleshy Fruit, Fennel
A direct and enveloping palate. The attack on the mouth is direct and confident. The structure is generous, ample and supple, reminiscent of the cotton flower. The enveloping and caressing texture is accompanied by floral, aniseed and mentholated nuances which bring lightness and freshness for such a solar vintage.
Finish - Sappy, Racy Acidity, Fresh Almonds
The finish lingers on a slightly sappy note, with a delicate bitterness evoking fresh almonds.
