Metaxa Private Reserve is a rare Greek spirit. It’s a blend of double pot still distillates aged for decades in the Metaxa cellars. Infused with herbs and rose petals, further enhanced by the fruitiness of aged Muscat wines from a sun-soaked Aegean Island. A symphony of honey-dipped dark chocolate, coffee beans, light floral notes, and rich oak. You'll love it neat or on the rocks.
To create this exceptional spirit, Metaxa master distiller Constantinos Raptis, selects Muscat wines that have aged the most beautifully, having preserved both the freshness of their youth and the complexity of their maturity and blends them with exquisite wine distillates matured in oak casks for decades in the cellars. He makes a single batch of Metaxa Private Reserve per year, and at that particular moment, selects the ingredients that are at their absolute peak.
Metaxa Private Reserve displays a glorious amber colour and delicate aromas of vanilla, dried fruits and spices, followed by full flavours of oak and toffee with a long finish.

It all begins with Spyros Metaxa who built his first distillery in 1888 in Piraeus, in the port of Athens. Being raised in a family of silk merchants, he was an adventurer and a man of exquisite taste. As he travelled around the world, he discovered many different spirits and wines. However, he found that spirits of the time tended to be harsh on the palate and with no great aroma or character. So, he began to dream of crafting a unique spirit that was as smooth as it was intense. A spirit that would journey through the senses. By 1888 Spyros Metaxa creates METAXA, the Original Greek Spirit, and soon enough this very spirit began to be exported around the Mediterranean and the later the world-wide.
Metaxa's production process is carefully supervised by Master Blender Konstantinos Raptis. A blend of Savatiano, Sultanina and Black Corinth grapes are employed in its production. The result is twice distilled to 60% ABV using traditional copper pot stills and then blended with aged muscat wine from Samos and Lemnos.
For aromatics, a unique blend of botanicals and rose petals impart their flavours through a special steeping process, after which the spirit is married in limousine oak casks to rest. When master blender Raptis has determined the spirit is ready, it is brought to -6°C for 48 hours, filtered and bottled.
