A landmark Tuscan red with precision and quiet strength. The 2022 Tignanello continues Marchesi Antinori’s legacy of innovation from the Tenuta Tignanello estate in the heart of the Chianti Classico hills. First produced in 1971, this was one of the wines that reshaped Italian fine wine, introducing Sangiovese to small French oak barrels and blending it with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The 2022 vintage captures the vineyard’s southwest-facing slopes at 350–400 metres, where marine marl soils and late-season rain balanced a warm summer to deliver concentration and freshness.

Fermentation of each variety took place separately before 13 months’ maturation in French and Hungarian oak. The result is a deeply perfumed and structured wine that unites Sangiovese’s purity with the layered power of Cabernet. Refined yet assertive, it speaks of precision, detail and remarkable longevity.

      Trusted by the professionals

There’s extraordinary energy in this wine. It displays a dark nose of black cherries, bramble fruit, violets, forest, licorice, bark, carob and leather. Density and tension dominate the full-bodied palate, with firm, velvety tannins. It’s slightly austere in the finish at the moment, yet it’s crunchy and full of potential

      — James Suckling, 96 Points

The 2022 Tignanello is such an elegant, poised wine. Brisk acids cut through a core of red Sangiovese fruit. Crushed flowers, mint, cinnamon, rose petal and a kiss of French oak appear later, adding notable brightness. The 2022 is a decidedly mid-weight Tignanello, but all the elements are very nicely balanced

      — Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 95 Points

Rich texture wraps around plum, cherry, graphite, tobacco and earth flavours, with a line of dusty tannins underneath. Fresh, elegant and long, ending with a pleasant astringency. Best from 2027 through 2040.

      Marchesi Antinori

Tenuta Tignanello sits at the heart of Chianti Classico, where the Greve and Pesa river valleys cut through gently rolling hills. The estate spans 319 hectares, with 165 planted to vines, anchored by its two celebrated slopes: Tignanello and Solaia. These sites, defined by Pliocene-era soils of limestone, schist, and marine marlstone, are the cradle of some of Italy’s most influential wines.

The Antinori family has worked these hillsides for generations, first releasing Solaia in 1978. The initial blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc soon gave way to the introduction of Sangiovese, shaping the distinctive character of the wine as it is known today. Produced only in exceptional vintages, Solaia is a measured act of restraint and ambition, with a legacy that continues to set the benchmark for contemporary Tuscan winemaking.
