Product Description:
Legendary Super Tuscan power shaped by precision and terroir. Marchesi Antinori’s Solaia 2017 is a benchmark blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese grown on the famed Solaia vineyard at Tenuta Tignanello. Crafted only in exceptional years, this is a wine with international pedigree, combining structure, elegance and depth—and the 2017 vintage is no exception.
Grapes were harvested late September to early October after a hot, dry summer followed by rain that tempered vine stress. Hand-sorted and gravity-fed into truncated cone fermentation tanks, vinification emphasised gentle extraction of ripe fruit balanced with fine tannins. Aging took place over 18 months in new French oak, with barrels kept separately before blending to allow full integration.
The result is rich yet nuanced: dark fruit intensity meets lifted mint and balsamic notes, interwoven with spice and cocoa. The tannins are smooth and polished, the structure seamless. This is Solaia at its expressive best.
The Maker
Tenuta Tignanello sits at the heart of Chianti Classico, where the Greve and Pesa river valleys cut through gently rolling hills. The estate spans 319 hectares, with 165 planted to vines, anchored by its two celebrated slopes: Tignanello and Solaia. These sites, defined by Pliocene-era soils of limestone, schist, and marine marlstone, are the cradle of some of Italy’s most influential wines.
The Antinori family has worked these hillsides for generations, first releasing Solaia in 1978. The initial blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc soon gave way to the introduction of Sangiovese, shaping the distinctive character of the wine as it is known today. Produced only in exceptional vintages, Solaia is a measured act of restraint and ambition, with a legacy that continues to set the benchmark for contemporary Tuscan winemaking.
Philosophy
At Tenuta Tignanello, wine is approached as an enduring conversation between site and season. The estate’s vineyards are managed with precision and patience, recognising that the interplay of altitude, soil composition, and the Chianti climate is what defines their singular expression.
Solaia and Tignanello are more than flagship wines; they represent a continuous pursuit of balance and refinement. For Marchesi Antinori, each vintage is both challenge and passion — an exploration of tradition guided by innovation, with the vineyard itself always at the centre.

Reviews & Accolades
“Extremely aromatic with sage, lavender, blackberries and currants. Full-bodied with chewy and very polished tannins that melt into the wine. Foursquare and slightly austere. Fresh and well-framed. A wine that needs five to six years to soften and come together completely.” – James Suckling, USA, 97 points
