Maison Mumm’s foundations date back to the mid‑19th century, firmly rooted in the Côte des Blancs but with fingerprints across the top terroirs of Champagne. The house winemakers take a meticulous and consistent approach, marrying traditional techniques like long bottle ageing and disgorgement with modern precision in temperature control and lees contact. Every decision, from selecting base wines to choosing the dosage, is driven by a century-old commitment to quality and structure.
Maison Mumm has been part of Champagne’s fabric since 1827, but its winemaking roots stretch back to the Rhine Valley in 1761. Founded by the Mumm brothers—Jacobus, Gottlieb and Philipp—the house quickly established itself in Reims with a singular commitment to quality. Georges Hermann Mumm, who later gave the house its iconic name, cemented that ethos with the motto: “Only the best.”
Today, Maison Mumm controls over 218 hectares of vineyards, with an impressive 160 hectares classified as Grands Crus across villages like Aÿ, Bouzy, Avize and Cramant. Pinot Noir forms the structural core of most wines, while Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs adds tension and precision. The house also pioneered vineyard-side pressing as early as the 1840s, ensuring fruit integrity from the moment of harvest.
Their winemaking blends old-world structure with modern clarity. Careful blending, controlled fermentations, and extensive ageing define a house style that’s as rigorous as it is expressive. With over 190 years of uninterrupted production, Mumm continues to champion a legacy of precision and progress in every bottle.
