Pure Eden is a unique wine, sourced from a single vineyard located in Eden Valley, which was originally planted by Charles Angas in the 1890s. The vineyard has changed hands several times over the years, having been owned by the Shiltons from 1911 to 1926, the Meakins from 1926 to 1929, the Roeslers from 1929 to 1961, the Andretzkes from 1961 to 2011, and now the Lindner family. This wine is a tribute to the tireless efforts of these guardians, who have dedicated more than a century to nurturing this special vineyard.
2021 in Eden Valley saw average winter rains were followed by even budburst, with buds showing good fruitfulness. Frost damage was significant in mid-October and early November, reducing the flowerheads in the later-bursting varieties. Otherwise, spring was cloudy with good rains pre-flowering, followed by short bursts of hot weather in late November. Flowering was mostly early, occurring from mid-November onwards. The late-flowering varieties were impacted by heat at the end of November and showed some coulure in the bunches. Strong winds on 5 December 2020 damaged the canopies, but the slightly battered crop remained disease free. January was dry, with a burst of heat prior to a perfectly timed rain event at veraison in early February. The lead up to vintage was cool, cloudy and mostly dry, resulting in balanced acidities and good aromatics in the white varieties. After one of the coolest summer for close to 20 years, a dry and warm autumn provided near-ideal conditions for ripening in our red varieties, achieving sensational colour, flavour and tannin maturity. Overall, the wines white or red show great balance and potential for ageing.

Deep-ish red tinged with purple, not as saturated as some of its brethren, while the bouquet is all about a hot summer's day in a eucalypt forest. Earth, undergrowth, subtle gumleaf and mint, the palate beautifully concentrated and deep, dense and fleshy, with graphite tannins holding the structure firm and upright. Masses of supple tannins which are ripe and smooth textured. This is a big wine with real elegance and balance, hand in hand with its obvious depth and concentration.
Langmeil Winery, established in 1842, holds a significant place in the history of the Barossa Valley. Founded by Christian Auricht, a Prussian migrant who planted some of the region’s earliest vines, Langmeil’s rich heritage includes the oldest surviving Shiraz vineyard in the world. After changing hands several times, the winery was revitalised in 1996 by three local mates who brought it back to life with a focus on sustainability and quality. Today, Langmeil is a family-owned winery renowned for its premium wine production and commitment to preserving the Barossa’s winemaking traditions.
Langmeil's approach to winemaking is deeply rooted in the region’s history, working with old vine vineyards and producing wines that showcase the Barossa's distinct terroir. Their wines are made with care and respect for the land, incorporating both traditional methods and modern innovations to bring out the best of the Barossa’s unique characteristics.
Langmeil’s winemaking philosophy is centered around the belief that great wines come from great vineyards. The winery is dedicated to preserving the Barossa Valley's rich winemaking heritage by focusing on the protection of old and rare vineyards. Through organic farming practices and sustainable viticulture, Langmeil ensures that their wines express the unique terroirs of the region. Their approach combines traditional winemaking techniques with innovative methods to produce wines that are both classic and contemporary, rich in character, and capable of aging gracefully. With a deep respect for the land, Langmeil is committed to making wines that honour the history of the Barossa Valley while embracing its future.
The winery’s custodianship of historic vineyards, such as the Jackaman’s Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, reflects their deep respect for the land and its history. Langmeil’s wines, like the Jackaman’s Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, are crafted to celebrate the Barossa’s unique blend of history, climate, and craftsmanship.
