A refined, dry-climate Chardonnay that captures the
understated elegance of Kumeu River in a highly approachable package. The 2025
Village Chardonnay blends grapes from Kumeū and Hawke’s Bay, sourced from
low-yielding vines and hand-picked to ensure purity. Fermentation is split: 38%
of the wine matured in old French oak barriques, the remainder in stainless
steel tanks. The barrel component adds subtle richness and texture without
overt oak influence, while the tank portion preserves crisp citrus and mineral
clarity. The result is a sophisticated, balanced Chardonnay: fresh yet
textural; restrained yet expressive on the palate.

The 2025 growing season delivered vibrant fruit
concentration, and the final wine shows moderate alcohol at 13.3% ABV. A
palate-cleansing acidity and a flinty, mineral core give lift and freshness.
The mid-palate reveals peachy ripeness and lemon-lime energy, while the overall
profile remains lean and finely tuned. This is a versatile wine meant for
everyday enjoyment but with a finesse that rewards a chilled glass on a warm
      evening or pairing with seafood.

      Kumeu River

The Brajkovich family’s story is deeply tied to the rise of modern New Zealand wine. From Croatian roots and a humble vineyard in West Auckland, Kumeu River has evolved into one of the country’s most respected wine estates. Since establishing the winery in 1944, three generations of Brajkovichs have shaped its trajectory, combining old-world intuition with an unwavering focus on quality.

Michael Brajkovich, New Zealand’s first Master of Wine, has been instrumental in refining the estate’s Chardonnay expressions, drawing influence from Burgundy while remaining grounded in the Kumeu landscape. His siblings Milan, Paul and Marijana remain integral to the business, continuing the family’s quiet pursuit of precision winemaking and sustainable viticulture.
