Bright precision and coastal elegance define the Kooyong Clonale Chardonnay 2025, a refined Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay crafted to express freshness, purity and regional character. Produced from estate vineyards across the Tuerong and Balnarring vineyards, Clonale serves as an introduction to Kooyong’s meticulous vineyard philosophy and cool-climate winemaking style. The Mornington Peninsula’s maritime influence and long growing season allow the fruit to ripen slowly, preserving natural acidity while developing layered citrus and stone fruit complexity. The 2025 vintage delivered excellent balance and clarity, producing wines with vibrant aromatics and finely tuned structure.

In the glass the wine is energetic and expressive, opening with aromas of white peach, lemon zest and grapefruit layered with subtle flinty reduction and delicate floral notes. The palate is finely textured and mineral-driven, balancing ripe orchard fruit with refreshing acidity and restrained oak influence. Partial barrel fermentation and maturation in French oak contribute creaminess and depth without overwhelming the wine’s natural tension and purity. The Clonale Chardonnay style favours elegance over weight, allowing the Mornington Peninsula terroir to remain at the forefront. A subtle saline edge and chalky minerality carry through the palate, adding length and sophistication to the finish. Approachable in its youth yet capable of short to medium-term cellaring, this Chardonnay pairs beautifully with fresh seafood, roast chicken or creamy pasta dishes.

      Kooyong Estate

Kooyong Estate was established in 1995 by Chris and Gail Aylward and later acquired by the Gjergja family, who continue to guide the estate today. The vineyards are located on the Mornington Peninsula, where varied soils and aspects provide the foundation for nuanced Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, alongside small plantings of Pinot Gris and Shiraz.

Chief winemaker Tim Perrin leads the cellar with a focus on precision and site transparency. A graduate in wine sciences from Charles Sturt University, he has been recognised as Dux of the AWRI Advanced Wine Assessment Course and awarded a Len Evans Scholarship. Viticulture is overseen by Stuart Marshall, ensuring that the estate’s parcels are farmed with care and consistency. Together, they maintain a reputation for expressive wines that capture the subtleties of the Peninsula.
