Organic viticulture, ripe orchard fruit and supple texture define the Jean-Luc Mader Pinot Gris 2024, an expressive white wine from France’s Alsace region. The wine is produced by Domaine Jean-Luc Mader in Hunawihr, a picturesque village situated along the Alsace Route des Vins. Jérôme Mader has managed the family estate since 2005, following his formal studies in oenology. The domaine has been certified organic since 2007 and follows a vineyard-focused approach intended to preserve healthy soils and clearly express the region’s varied terroirs. All vineyard work is completed by hand, while low yields and strict fruit selection support the estate’s emphasis on precision and quality. The 2024 Pinot Gris is bottled under the Alsace appellation and presented with a screwcap closure.

The wine opens with lifted aromas of peach, apple and exotic tropical fruit. These fruit characters continue onto a rounded and supple palate with concentrated flavour and notable depth. A small degree of residual sweetness adds generosity and textural breadth without overwhelming the wine’s freshness. Cleansing acidity provides balance, definition and energy through the centre of the palate. Its combination of ripe fruit, precise flavour and refreshing structure gives the wine immediate appeal. The underlying concentration and depth also provide sufficient structure for development over the medium term.

      Trusted by the professionals

      Domaine Jean-Luc Mader

The Mader domaine is a very small quantity, high quality wine producer based in the picture postcard village of Hunawihr just south of Ribeauville. The family own just over 10 hectares of vineyards, including  prized holdings of vines in the famous ‘Rosacker’ Grand Cru vineyard and also now in the Grand cru Schlossberg. All vineyard work is carried out by hand and since 2005 their son Jerome is now running the estate having studied and gained a Diploma in Oenology. Since returning to the family estate Jerome has also converted all their vineyards to organic viticulture (certified organic since 2007).

Rieslings here are some of the few in Alsace produced in a classic fine dry style built to age. In exceptional years a tiny volume of late harvest ‘Vendanges Tardive’ Riesling is made in a similar fine, elegant style that ages superbly. Jerome is fanatical about quality so yields are kept very low and selections for all wines are extremely strict ensuring the highest quality in every bottle. The entire range of wines from the Mader family taste true to their grape varieties and vineyard origins and all represent fantastic value.
