Old vines, new energy—Barossa Shiraz with serious charisma.
The 2017 Don Shiraz is Izway’s tribute to both place and people. Sourced from Adrian Hoffmann’s revered Dimchurch vineyard in Ebenezer—planted in 1950—it’s a single-site expression that channels the deep roots and complex soils of the northern Barossa into a wine of vibrancy and gravitas. ‘The Don’ name isn’t just a nod to hierarchy—it’s about honouring the quiet authority of a grower whose fruit consistently delivers power, detail and longevity.
The 2017 vintage was cooler than usual, with gentle ripening that coaxed out freshness, texture and lifted aromatics. Bright red fruit, cranberry, musk and spice dominate up front, but the wine’s depth reveals itself slowly—star anise, velvet tannins and a fine thread of oak add structure and intrigue. This is Barossa Shiraz with both muscle and finesse.
Drink it young after a decant, or give it 10–20 years to uncoil in the cellar. Best served with charred meats, mushroom ragù or a spiced lamb shoulder.

A bold nose with raspberry, blueberry and red-plum aromas. Very silky palate with super ripe, essence-like dark-berry flavors, sitting in drinkable, rich mode. Drink or hold.
Izway Wines is a family-owned winery that has evolved from humble beginnings into a respected producer in the Barossa Valley. Founded by Chris and Brian Conway after a chance encounter in France in 2002, Izway began with a single barrel of Shiraz sourced from the renowned Ebenezer sub-region. Over the years, the winery has grown steadily and organically, focusing on creating wines that authentically express the character of their environment. In 2015, Izway Wines built a state-of-the-art, off-grid winery in Seppeltsfield, designed with sustainability in mind. Today, alongside Chris's wife Kathryn, who is also the General Manager, Izway continues to craft wines with a deep respect for traditional winemaking methods, such as basket pressing and natural fermentation, ensuring each wine is expressive, distinctive, and true to its Barossa Valley roots.
Izway Wines is committed to producing wines that genuinely reflect the land and growing conditions of each season. With a focus on authenticity and simplicity, the winery follows a minimal-intervention approach to winemaking, allowing the terroir to speak for itself. Located in the sun-soaked Barossa Valley, Izway benefits from access to old vines that thrive in the region’s warm climate. The winery’s philosophy centres on sustainability, with its modern off-grid facility designed to operate in harmony with the environment. Rather than relying on traditional marketing methods such as wine shows or media promotions, Izway prefers to build its brand through personal connections and a shared passion for great wine. Each bottle of Izway wine represents the legacy of a small, family-owned winery dedicated to producing wines of exceptional quality and character, making it a true expression of the Barossa Valley.
