Elegance shaped by heritage and precision defines the Izway Don Oscar & Matilda 2019, a Barossa Valley Shiraz that pays tribute to family lineage while expressing a distinctly modern sense of balance. Sourced from mature vines grown in carefully managed sites, the wine reflects Izway’s minimal-intervention approach, allowing fruit clarity and vineyard character to remain at the forefront. The 2019 vintage provided steady, favourable conditions, resulting in fruit of excellent concentration supported by natural freshness; a hallmark of structured, cellar-worthy Barossa Shiraz. In the glass, the wine reveals both depth and composure, avoiding excess while delivering impressive flavour authority.
Whole-bunch inclusion contributes aromatic complexity and fine structural tension, while maturation in French oak enhances texture without dominating the profile. Layers of dark fruit unfold alongside savoury undertones, creating a wine that feels deliberate and confidently proportioned. Its tannin framework is firm yet polished, guiding the palate toward a long, persistent conclusion. There is an architectural precision to the wine, suggesting both immediate appeal with decanting and significant ageing potential for the patient collector. Named in honour of Oscar and Matilda, a nod to generational continuity, this Shiraz captures the meeting point of tradition and contemporary craftsmanship. It is a compelling partner to slow-cooked meats, richly flavoured dishes, or moments that call for a wine of presence and quiet sophistication.

“Izway’s wines consistently show a confident handling of Barossa Shiraz, balancing fruit weight with savoury detail and structural poise. The use of whole bunch brings aromatic lift and complexity, setting these wines apart.”
Izway Wines is a family-owned winery that has evolved from humble beginnings into a respected producer in the Barossa Valley. Founded by Chris and Brian Conway after a chance encounter in France in 2002, Izway began with a single barrel of Shiraz sourced from the renowned Ebenezer sub-region. Over the years, the winery has grown steadily and organically, focusing on creating wines that authentically express the character of their environment. In 2015, Izway Wines built a state-of-the-art, off-grid winery in Seppeltsfield, designed with sustainability in mind. Today, alongside Chris's wife Kathryn, who is also the General Manager, Izway continues to craft wines with a deep respect for traditional winemaking methods, such as basket pressing and natural fermentation, ensuring each wine is expressive, distinctive, and true to its Barossa Valley roots.
Izway Wines is committed to producing wines that genuinely reflect the land and growing conditions of each season. With a focus on authenticity and simplicity, the winery follows a minimal-intervention approach to winemaking, allowing the terroir to speak for itself. Located in the sun-soaked Barossa Valley, Izway benefits from access to old vines that thrive in the region’s warm climate. The winery’s philosophy centres on sustainability, with its modern off-grid facility designed to operate in harmony with the environment. Rather than relying on traditional marketing methods such as wine shows or media promotions, Izway prefers to build its brand through personal connections and a shared passion for great wine. Each bottle of Izway wine represents the legacy of a small, family-owned winery dedicated to producing wines of exceptional quality and character, making it a true expression of the Barossa Valley.
Aromas of black cherry, mulberry, and plum intertwine with violet, cracked pepper, clove, and hints of graphite. Subtle oak spice adds warmth without overshadowing the fruit.
Full-bodied with ripe black fruits, dark chocolate, liquorice, and savoury spice. Fine, velvety tannins provide shape, while balanced acidity maintains energy and precision across the palate.
Long and composed, trailing dark fruit, gentle spice, and polished tannins with impressive length and clarity.
