High-altitude Eden Valley fruit, vivid citrus character and mineral precision define the Hentley Farm Riesling 2026, a crisp aromatic white made entirely from Riesling. Chief Winemaker Andrew Quin selected five vineyard blocks of varying aspects to create this expression of the renowned South Australian region. The vineyards are positioned at approximately 420 to 450 metres above sea level, where elevation helps preserve freshness and aromatic intensity. Shallow grey sandy-loam soils overlying granite naturally reduce vine vigour, contributing to pristine acidity, vibrant flavour and concentrated perfume. Slightly above-average winter and spring rainfall, followed by mild conditions through spring and early summer, encouraged delayed development and balanced vine canopies. Two rainfall events occurred during March, while warm early conditions gave way to a mild conclusion to the growing season, resulting in a late and elongated vintage characterised by elegance and vibrancy.

The Riesling grapes were harvested between 4 March and 21 March 2026. Following harvest, the fruit was destemmed, chilled and pressed before the juice was cold settled for 48 hours. Fermentation was conducted at cool temperatures between 11°C and 15°C in stainless-steel vessels to retain varietal purity and freshness. The finished wine presents a focused profile of grapefruit, lemon, delicate blossom and mineral nuances. Bright acidity drives an intense and vibrant flavour profile while maintaining balance and refreshment. Hentley Farm describes the wine as suitable for immediate enjoyment as a crisp aromatic white, while also possessing the attributes required for further development with careful cellaring.

      Hentley Farm

Hentley Farm was established in 1997 by Keith and Alison Henschke with a singular vision: to craft exceptional single-estate wines from the Barossa Valley. With an Agricultural Science and Wine Marketing degree from Roseworthy College, Keith acquired extensive industry experience before seeking the perfect site in the Barossa, guided by advice from local experts to look for “red-brown soil over limestone.”

The extreme diversity of soil, aspect, and altitude at Hentley Farm required careful planning in terms of varietal and clone selection, row spacing, trellising, and water management. The estate vineyards feature Shiraz (70%), Grenache (17%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), Zinfandel (2%), and a small parcel of Viognier (0.5%). Their first wines were released in 2002.

Since 2008, Head Winemaker Andrew Quin has overseen Hentley Farm’s evolution, focusing on crafting modern wines from traditional Barossa varieties. The wines are varietally diverse, approachable in their youth, yet structured for extended cellaring. Under Andrew’s guidance, Hentley Farm has become one of Australia’s leading boutique wineries, earning accolades worldwide, including the 2015 James Halliday Winery of the Year.
