Henschke Mount Edelstone Shiraz 2021 is a single-vineyard Shiraz from South Australia's Eden Valley, presented here in a 1.5L magnum signed by Stephen Henschke. Sourced from ungrafted vines first planted in 1912, this celebrated vineyard has produced one of Australia's benchmark single-vineyard Shiraz wines since 1952. The exceptional 2021 vintage brings together concentration, freshness and precision, capturing the distinctive character of this historic site with remarkable clarity.
The wine opens with layered aromas of blackberry, blueberry and Satsuma plum, framed by black, white and green peppercorn, wild sage, bay leaf and fresh thyme. The palate is deep and finely structured, combining dark berry fruit, liquorice and savoury herbs with vibrant acidity and velvety tannins. Matured for 18 months in predominantly seasoned French and American oak hogsheads, it offers both immediate appeal and outstanding cellaring potential. Presented in magnum format and personally signed by Stephen Henschke, this is a highly collectible release that will reward long-term ageing or elevate landmark celebrations. It is an exceptional match for roast lamb, dry-aged beef or slow-cooked game dishes.

… Really savoury, nuanced, rewarding nose. So dense and concentrated as it hits the palate! Yet it's cool and refreshing on the finish. It already seems quite expressive… This is a real charmer. The density of fruit obscures the tannin which is just hinted at on the very end with discernible evidence of a framework. This just goes on and on … Surely those with a prejudice against Australian Shiraz...
… This a gorgeous reference Eden Valley Shiraz with superb fruit definition, energy and flow.
The 2021 is an absolute stunner from a great vintage and I've no doubt that this will age gracefully for decades. … Velvety and graceful in its flow on the palate with a fresh mineral cadence and superfine, powdered granitic tannins for support. It'll go down as one of the greats.
… It is the generosity of this wine that makes the most striking impression. Plush, approachable, ripe, just sheer class. … Seamless, with a nice line of fresh acidity and a lingering finish, it is the seductive creamy texture which stands out. This is a wine vibrating with promise, walking the tightrope between finesse and power. Time in the glass saw the perfumes really explode forth. …
Henschke is a prestigious, family-owned winery with a rich legacy that spans over 153 years and six generations. Founded in 1862 by Johann Christian Henschke, the winery began with a modest vineyard in Keyneton, South Australia, and has since grown into one of Australia’s most celebrated wine estates. Located in the renowned Eden Valley wine region, Henschke's vineyards extend across some of the most esteemed wine-growing areas, including the Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills. Their acclaimed single-vineyard sites, such as Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone, are a testament to the family's commitment to producing exceptional, site-specific wines that embody the uniqueness of their terroir.
The Henschke family’s dedication to excellence has earned them international recognition and accolades. In 2021, they were honoured as Wine Enthusiast’s New World Winery of the Year, further solidifying their global reputation for outstanding craftsmanship. Additionally, Henschke was named Winery of the Year by Halliday Wine Companion, and they proudly carry the Robert Parker Wine Advocate Green Emblem, reflecting their commitment to sustainability and environmentally conscious winemaking practices. With a legacy built on quality and innovation, Henschke continues to shape the future of Australian winemaking while maintaining their foundational values of excellence and respect for the land.
Henschke’s winemaking philosophy is founded on the belief that the best wines are made in the vineyard. By embracing organic and biodynamic farming practices, the family ensures that their vineyards are cared for with a long-term view, prioritising the health of both the vines and the land. This respect for nature allows the true expression of the fruit to shine through, producing wines that are authentic, balanced, and reflective of their unique environments. Henschke’s approach to farming is not just about sustainability - it’s about building a legacy of responsibility for future generations.
This commitment to working with nature rather than against it is evident in every bottle of Henschke wine. The family’s attention to detail, combined with their unwavering focus on quality, has resulted in a portfolio of wines that are globally recognised for their excellence. Henschke’s wines are crafted with the intention of showcasing the distinct characteristics of their vineyards, with each vintage offering a true expression of place. By integrating sustainability into every aspect of their winemaking process, Henschke ensures that their wines will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come, leaving a lasting impact on the world of fine wine.
Aromas of ripe dark berries, plum, and a touch of graphite and dried herbs. There are also hints of leather, smoke, and spice from the oak.
The palate is rich and full-bodied, showcasing deep fruit flavors, including blackberries and dark cherries. Layers of spice, leather, and earthy notes contribute to its complexity, while the tannins provide a firm structure.
A lengthy finish reveals a harmonious balance of fruit, tannin, and minerality, leaving a lasting impression with a fine, dry texture.
