A precise and powerful interpretation of Montée de Tonnerre from one of Chablis’ most exacting domaines. Domaine Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 release showcases this iconic Premier Cru with a fine balance of depth and restraint. Fruit from organically farmed Chardonnay vines is hand-harvested from the steep, east-facing slopes of Montée de Tonnerre, where limestone and marl soils impart both tension and mineral weight. Fermentation proceeds naturally with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and seasoned oak, with around 30% of the blend aged in old wood to add quiet texture without overt influence.

The 2023 vintage reflects the domaine’s patient, low-intervention approach. Medium to full-bodied yet taut, with crystalline acidity and fine chalk structure. Aromas of beeswax, honeysuckle and orchard fruit lead to a palate of precision and length. This is Montée de Tonnerre rendered in detail: concentrated, saline and finely proportioned, a wine that will evolve gracefully over the next decade.

      Trusted by the professionals

With 12.5% alcohol, Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is another success this year, soaring from the glass with a bouquet of beeswax, honeysuckle and crisp orchard fruit. Matured in a combination of old wood (30%) and tank, it’s medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated yet with good tension and structured around racy acids, with ample chalky extract and a long, sapid finish

Good width but even more vibrant depth. Large scale, riper but not a bit less fresh. The most intense, perhaps the most strict too, finishing flavour — but never too strict. It’s going to be a great one but wait at least 3 years if you can

      — Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report

      Domaine Moreau-Naudet

When Stéphane Moreau took over his family’s Chablis estate in 1993, he quietly reshaped its future. Influenced by Burgundy’s most revered growers—Vincent Dauvissat, Didier Dagueneau, and Clos Rougeard’s Nadi Foucault—he reintroduced time-honoured, pre-industrial methods that brought a new clarity and complexity to the wines. His deep curiosity and instinctive talent positioned Domaine Moreau-Naudet as one of the most exciting names in Chablis, championing an expression of terroir that was tactile, precise, and anything but conventional.

Following Stéphane’s untimely passing in 2016, his wife Virginie Moreau and assistant winemaker Coco chose to carry on the work he’d started. With the support of a tight-knit circle of growers and a clear commitment to the estate’s original philosophy, they have ensured continuity—both in spirit and in quality. Under Virginie’s watch, the domaine hasn’t just survived; it has strengthened its standing, earning a coveted two-star rating in *La Revue du Vin de France*, just behind Raveneau and Dauvissat.
