The Domaine Michel Gros Gevrey-Chambertin La Platière 2023 is a single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the village appellation of Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. La Platière lies within the alluvial cone below the Lavaux valley, where silt and limestone material accumulated over centuries to form a clay-rich, calcareous subsoil. Primary fermentation takes place in epoxy-lined concrete tanks before the wine is transferred to French oak barrels for maturation. The 2023 release was matured for approximately 18 months in oak, with new barrels accounting for around 25% to 30% of the élevage, followed by an additional period in stainless steel before release. This measured use of new oak adds structure and savoury complexity without dominating the vineyard character. The wine shows ripe red and dark berries accompanied by earthy tones, gentle spice, wild herbs and discreet toasted-oak notes.
