Product Description:
The Domaine Michel Gros Gevrey-Chambertin La Platière 2023 is a single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the village appellation of Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. La Platière lies within the alluvial cone below the Lavaux valley, where silt and limestone material accumulated over centuries to form a clay-rich, calcareous subsoil. Domaine Michel Gros associates this terroir with wines that combine suppleness and depth while retaining the structure expected of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vineyard’s vines are reported to average approximately 45 years of age, contributing concentration and definition to the finished wine. Production is limited, with an average vineyard yield of approximately 40 hectolitres per hectare. The wine is produced entirely from Pinot Noir and carries the AOC Gevrey-Chambertin designation.
Primary fermentation takes place in epoxy-lined concrete tanks before the wine is transferred to French oak barrels for maturation. The 2023 release was matured for approximately 18 months in oak, with new barrels accounting for around 25% to 30% of the élevage, followed by an additional period in stainless steel before release. This measured use of new oak adds structure and savoury complexity without dominating the vineyard character. The wine shows ripe red and dark berries accompanied by earthy tones, gentle spice, wild herbs and discreet toasted-oak notes. Fresh acidity and fine tannins bring definition to its deep, sappy palate, balancing Gevrey-Chambertin’s natural generosity with refinement. Its structure suggests that it will become more integrated and expressive with careful bottle development. The combination of depth, freshness and polished tannins makes it a fitting accompaniment to roast duck, beef tenderloin, venison, mushroom dishes and mature cheeses.
