Domaine Gerard Duplessis Chablis 1er Cru Montmains 2019
Domaine Gérard Duplessis is a family run cellar founded in 1895, today managed by Lilian Duplessis. Located in the heart of the Chablis’s region it has 8 ha of vines divided into about twenty plots, each with its own character, vines installed, for some, for 75 years, and constant attention, organic viticulture requires. Grand Cru Les Clos, Premiers Crus Vaugiraut, Mont-de-Milieu, Fourchaume, Montée-de-Tonnerre, Montmains and Vaillons: so many localities with names well known to Chablis lovers, and honored on their Estate.
Domaine Gerard Duplessis Chablis 1er Cru Montmains 2019 is the biggest parcel of the Domaine, across 2 parcels both over 80 years old. One parcel on the border between Montmains & Foret and then the second one in Foret, bottled both as 1er Cru Montmains. Lilian’s favourite Cru, typicity of Chablis as he puts it. Pressed straight into tank, no pre ferment racking or setting, wild fermentation, malo finished in tank and left on lees for 6 months. Then transferred to barrel, 10% new, total elevage of 12 to 18 months.
Pale in colour and fresh on the nose, left bank austerity shines through at first, then the main body of the wine is much fleshier behind. Even with, some heat at the finish, but more spice. Good grip though, this has potential to be a grand vin de garde – Jasper Morris, MW - 93 Points
