Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru 2016
Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru 2016
Due to the low yields in 2016, several of Croix Beaune 1er Crus have been blended together to create this delicious cameo of Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru 2016. To be specific, the final blend is drawn from four parcels of old vines planted 1955, 1956, 1957, 1968 in Les Cent Vignes, from a plot of 1930 vines in Les Tuvilains (from brown clay/marl soils), from Les Grèves, planted in 1968 on brown clay soils with gravel (grèze litée) and from Bas de Teurons in the centre of the appellation. While the total surface area of these plots is just over two hectares, the frost and hail affected vines only managed to produce four barrels, or the equivalent of 4.5 hl/ha. Croix vinified this cuvée with approximately 20% whole clusters, and the wine was bottled unfiltered. It's a beautifully detailed, finely drawn Beaune, with the kind of drive, charm and silk that keeps you tethered to the glass.
