      Dom Pérignon Plénitude 2 2008 is a late-release expression of one of Champagne’s most celebrated modern vintages, shaped by extended lees ageing and the house’s pursuit of harmony, depth and precision. The 2008 vintage was marked by a cool, slow-growing season, followed by a decisive period of sunshine and north/northeast winds in September that allowed the grapes to ripen with freshness and structure. This Plénitude 2 release represents the wine’s second life, where additional time on the lees has brought greater texture, complexity and resonance while preserving the remarkable energy of the vintage. Dom Pérignon produces only vintage Champagne, and this 2008 P2 continues that philosophy with a blend led by Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

      Disgorged in 2024 and released after extended maturation, Dom Pérignon Plénitude 2 2008 reveals the tension, chalky drive and luminous freshness that define the year. The wine combines citrus brightness, white stone fruit, toasted hazelnut, brioche and subtle smoky notes with a finely layered palate. Its mousse is precise and polished, carrying the fruit, mineral and savoury elements with impressive length. Compared with the original release, the P2 expression shows added breadth, creaminess and mid-palate depth without losing the vintage’s crystalline line. It is a Champagne of power and finesse, equally suited to refined seafood, shellfish, caviar, white meats and celebratory dining.

      In 1668, Dom Pierre Pérignon was appointed procurator at the Abbey of Hautvillers, and for the next 47 years he pursued a single, uncompromising ambition: to make the best wine in the world. Three centuries on, Maison Dom Pérignon continues that pursuit, guided not by trend or technique but by a constant search for harmony.

      Every Dom Pérignon release answers to the same constraint: the vintage itself. The House exists to bear witness to a single year's harvest, whatever that year brings, even when the honest answer is not to declare a vintage at all. Every wine is an assemblage, built on timeless principles that take precedence over any winemaking fashion. And every wine spends its formative years in the dark, ageing slowly on lees, where precision, intensity, minerality and complexity are allowed to develop on their own timeline.

      Dom Pierre Pérignon's own legacy is often reduced to myth, credited with inventing Champagne outright or, more strangely, remembered as a blind monk. Neither is true. What is true is the scale of his innovation: a gentler press that could draw clear, still white wine from black grapes; an early understanding of Champagne's marginal climate and the value of blending across vineyards; stronger English glass bottles built to survive pressure; and the reintroduction of cork as a dependable seal. Between them, these advances didn't just shape Champagne. They shaped the modern wine world.
