Coriole Piquepoul 2024
Established in the late 1960's, Coriole is overlooking the valley of McLaren Vale. The estate vineyards are on red-brown earths over limestone, renowned for producing fruit of finer quality.
The Piquepoul grape has long been a favourite of the Lloyd Family and was selected as having potential as a new variety for McLaren Vale.
2024 is the wineries tenth release of Piquepoul - they were the first to grow Piquepoul in Australia. The nose is spritely and fresh showing fresh lemon, cypress and white nectarine. The palate is fine and long with fresh acidity providing drive and texture, flavours of citrus blossom, jasmine flower and wet stone leaving the palate craving seafood, natural oysters especially!
This wine is best served with freshly shucked oysters - the ultimate companion to complement Piquepoul’s lively acidity. Or try some lightly grilled fresh caught squid with a squeeze of citrus.
Gee, Coriole are knocking out some excellent white wines. Love the texture here, it’s really chalky and pithy, and in with that some brine, a little lavender and lemon thyme perfume, ripe lemon and pink grapefruit, juicy and zippy acidity, with a peppery finish of excellent length. Delightful. So clean and fresh. I’m giving it a bonus point for being so interesting and good to drink. - Gary Walsh, Winefront, 94 Points.
