      Product Description:
Delicacy, perfume and finely etched structure define the Chatto Bird Pinot Noir 2024, a cool-climate Tasmanian red with immediate charm and underlying intensity. Bird forms part of Chatto’s single-vineyard grower collection and is sourced from Pipers River, Tasmania. The producer describes Bird as the lightest-framed of its grower wines, although its elegant proportions should not be mistaken for a lack of flavour or concentration. Made entirely from Pinot Noir, the 2024 release presents a pure red-fruited profile supported by floral lift, savoury spice and finely woven tannins. Its graceful structure reflects the established Bird style, which emphasises delicacy, precision and aromatic expression rather than overt richness.

Vintage conditions played an important role in shaping the wine’s character. Tasmania experienced its driest summer on record, resulting in an early harvest across the state and minimal disease pressure during the growing season. These favourable ripening conditions produced 2024 Pinot Noirs with greater flesh and structure than the preceding couple of vintages. In the glass, Bird remains bright and finely proportioned, combining red cherry, redcurrant and raspberry characters with herbal, earthy and gently spiced complexity. The palate is delicate but persistent, with pure fruit carried across a mineral-inflected framework. Fine, filigree-like tannins provide definition without overwhelming the wine’s fragrant fruit. Although approachable in its youth, its balance, structural detail and concentration indicate strong potential for further development in bottle. The wine was bottled in December 2024 and retains the freshness and finesse expected of a carefully handled Pipers River Pinot Noir.

      Reviews & Accolades
“Bright ruby in the glass with a taut aromatic profile of red cherry, redcurrant and raspberry. These fruit tones are undercut with hints of undergrowth…” — Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion, 94 Points

“The fruit here has a sweet edge but then it’s also herbal, sinewy and long. … Excellent Pinot Noir. Will mature beautifully.” — Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, 94 Points

“Light-medium red-purple colour; shy aromas of clean fresh red cherry to raspberry aromas, some attractive herb touches, and firming, cleansing tannins to complete the picture.” — Huon Hooke, The Real Review, 94 Points
