Serious Pinot Grigio by Riccardo Cotarella, one of the most influential wine personalities in the world. Ca’ Montini presents a premium Pinot Grigio DOC picked by hand from the single vineyard plot in Trentino. This is the only wine produced by Ca’Montini, truly showcasing the quality and winemaking history of Trentino. The 2022 release has beautiful aroma’s of white peach, green pear, a hint of quartz and some peel citrus peel on the nose. On the palate there's fresh crunchy acidity with lovely white peach notes, green pear and peach blossoms. Saline minerality lingers on the pallet adding a spark of interest. Who knew Pinot Grigio could be this good.

The Ca’Montini Pinot Grigio comes from a single vineyard called “Terre di Valfredda”, (meaning cold valley) in Ala, Trentino. The traditional Pergola trellising system is used predominantly with white grapes to protect the grapes from too much sun and possible sunburn and promote airflow through the canopy to prevent disease pressure and create a cooling effect. Once the fruit arrives in the winery all bunches are hand sorted, chilled down and gently whole bunch pressed to tank. All juice is fermented using indigenous yeast in stainless steel tank and does not go through malolactic fermentation to retain freshness and purity of fruit.

    Ca Montini

Planted in 1990 the Terre di Valfredda vineyard is naturally protected from the elements by the surrounding Dolomites. This highly-prized vineyard is made up of four small plots of clay and limestone soil that form a cone shape, the locals in the area call Valfredda or “cold valley.” As one of Italy’s top winemakers, Riccardo Cotarella’s experience with Pinot Grigio comes from twelve years of study and experimentation conducted in vineyards as well as in the cellar at the University of Viterbo where he is Professor of Oenology and Viticulture. During this time Cotarella has received many offers of collaboration to produce Pinot Grigio with numerous Italian wineries, but in the end elected to work with Ca’ Montini on his first Trentino effort.

Named Wine Enthusiast Winemaker of the Year and Gambero Rosso Best Italian Winemaker, Cotarella is one of Italy’s most celebrated winemakers and has been proclaimed “one of the best in Italian winemaking” by Wine Spectator and “one of the most influential wine personalities in the world” by Robert Parker.

On the palate a fresh crunchy acidity with lovely white peach notes, green pear and peach blossoms

    Finish
Saline Minerality, Crushed Almonds, Floral Finish

The sense saline minerality lingers on the pallet and provokes interest. There is a lovely mid palate weight, that balances out the crisp acidity and the saltiness.
