The By Farr Tout Pres Pinot Noir 2022 is the pinnacle of the Farr family's winemaking legacy, crafted from one of the most challenging and revered vineyard sites in Geelong, Victoria. Named after the French phrase for "very cosy," Tout Pres is a densely-planted site with nearly 7,300 vines per hectare, where competition for nutrients forces the vines to work harder, producing intensely flavoured, structured fruit. The result is a Pinot Noir that stands tall in the Southern Hemisphere, offering complexity and individuality rivaling the finest Grand Cru wines of Burgundy.
Sourced from a unique vineyard with three distinct slopes—black volcanic soil over limestone, quartz gravel mixed with ironstone, and sandy loam—this wine benefits from the varied terroir, with each slope contributing a different aspect to the wine’s profile. The 2022 vintage continues the evolution of the Tout Pres vineyard, showcasing more subtlety, delicate fruit structure, and incredible balance. Fermented with 100% whole bunches in a five-tonne oak fermenter and aged in 100% new French oak, the wine is a powerful expression of the site, with ripe berries, sweet spice, and earthy notes layered with a touch of graphite and pepper.
This exceptional Pinot Noir is not just a wine—it’s a sensory journey. It captures the essence of the land, the winemaking process, and the Farr family’s dedication to creating wines of extraordinary character. With a structured core, vibrant acidity, and nuanced complexity, the By Farr Tout Pres Pinot Noir 2022 is a wine that will age beautifully for decades, rewarding the patient collector with every passing year.

The By Farr winery, established by Gary Farr in 1994, has become one of the most prestigious names in Australian winemaking. Situated in the Geelong region, specifically in the Moorabool Valley, the winery is known for its meticulous, hands-off approach to winemaking. With a strong commitment to organic and biodynamic practices, By Farr is recognised for producing wines that are a true expression of their terroir, particularly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Gary Farr, a pioneer of Pinot Noir in the region, has passed down his expertise to his son, Nick Farr, who has now fully taken the reins of the winery. Under Nick’s leadership, By Farr continues to produce exceptional wines that have garnered critical acclaim both in Australia and internationally. Each bottle of By Farr wine reflects the family’s dedication to craftsmanship, sustainability, and the pursuit of perfection in every vintage.
At By Farr, the philosophy is simple: respect for the land, the vine, and the fruit. This approach is grounded in a commitment to sustainable, organic farming practices, as well as hands-off winemaking that lets the terroir speak for itself. The Farr family believes that a great wine starts in the vineyard, with meticulous attention to detail paid to every aspect of vineyard management, from canopy care to harvest timing. Winemaking follows a minimalist approach, with native yeast fermentation, careful barrel selection, and the avoidance of fining and filtration, allowing each wine to evolve naturally and express its true character. This approach has resulted in wines that are elegant, structured, and complex, capturing the unique essence of the Geelong region.
The nose of the By Farr Tout Pres Pinot Noir 2022 is immediately captivating, with vibrant aromas of ripe raspberries, alpine strawberries, and cranberries, accented by subtle notes of cardamom, dill, and wet earth. The fragrance is complex and rich, drawing you into its layers of spice and fruit.
On the palate, the wine reveals its power and elegance. The bright red fruit flavours are complemented by earthy undertones and a touch of graphite. The palate is expansive, with fine, silky tannins providing structure and focus, and a bright acidity lifting the fruit. The wine is beautifully balanced, with depth and intensity that reflect the care taken in both the vineyard and winery.
The finish is long and silky, with lingering fruit flavours and a mineral edge that enhances the wine’s complexity. The wine’s structure and acidity ensure a seamless, refined finish, leaving a lasting impression of grace and elegance.
