Seamless and seductive, Sangreal is the essence of By Farr Pinot Noir.
Planted in 1994, the Sangreal vineyard is the oldest on the By Farr estate, and year after year it delivers the most perfumed, finely poised wine in the portfolio. North-facing and rich in bluestone, limestone and ironstone soils, it creates a unique microclimate for clones 114 and 115—now regarded as the vineyard’s own ‘Sangreal clone’.
The 2023 release is all red fruit, lifted florals and spice. Fermented with 70% whole bunches and aged in 70% new French oak, it’s complex but never forced. A wine of poise and power in equal measure—tightly wound yet immediately compelling. Sangreal always walks the line beautifully, and in 2023 it might just be dancing on it.

The By Farr winery, established by Gary Farr in 1994, has become one of the most prestigious names in Australian winemaking. Situated in the Geelong region, specifically in the Moorabool Valley, the winery is known for its meticulous, hands-off approach to winemaking. With a strong commitment to organic and biodynamic practices, By Farr is recognised for producing wines that are a true expression of their terroir, particularly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Gary Farr, a pioneer of Pinot Noir in the region, has passed down his expertise to his son, Nick Farr, who has now fully taken the reins of the winery. Under Nick’s leadership, By Farr continues to produce exceptional wines that have garnered critical acclaim both in Australia and internationally. Each bottle of By Farr wine reflects the family’s dedication to craftsmanship, sustainability, and the pursuit of perfection in every vintage.
At By Farr, the philosophy is simple: respect for the land, the vine, and the fruit. This approach is grounded in a commitment to sustainable, organic farming practices, as well as hands-off winemaking that lets the terroir speak for itself. The Farr family believes that a great wine starts in the vineyard, with meticulous attention to detail paid to every aspect of vineyard management, from canopy care to harvest timing. Winemaking follows a minimalist approach, with native yeast fermentation, careful barrel selection, and the avoidance of fining and filtration, allowing each wine to evolve naturally and express its true character. This approach has resulted in wines that are elegant, structured, and complex, capturing the unique essence of the Geelong region.
