The Buccia Nera Tenuta di Campriano Chianti Riserva 2018 is a pure and expressive 100% Sangiovese (Sangiovese Grosso), drawn from organically farmed hillside vineyards in Campriano, near Arezzo, in the southeastern reaches of Chianti. The Mancini family, stewards of this estate since 1926, farm with deep respect for the land, embracing certified organic viticulture that preserves biodiversity and soil vitality.

At elevations between 450 and 550 metres, the vines benefit from wide diurnal temperature swings, which extend the ripening period and promote balance between fruit concentration and natural acidity. The clay and galestro (marl and schist) soils lend both structure and aromatic lift, yielding Sangiovese of purity, depth, and minerality. The vines, aged between 20 and 50 years, produce small, flavour-rich berries that form the foundation of this Riserva’s complexity.

Fermentation occurs in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts, a slow and natural process that captures the variety’s authentic character. The wine is then matured for around 18 months in large French oak barrels, with a small portion in tonneaux to introduce gentle oxygen exchange and polish the tannins. Further ageing in steel and bottle refines the texture and integrates the structure before release.

In the glass, the 2018 vintage reveals a compelling interplay of ripe red cherry, wild strawberry, and dried herbs, accented by hints of leather, tobacco leaf, and warm spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with supple tannins and a vibrant line of acidity that carries through to a long, savoury finish.

The Buccia Nera Chianti Riserva exemplifies the estate’s philosophy: wines of authentic regional identity, guided by patience, precision, and respect for nature. Elegant yet grounded, this Riserva pairs beautifully with Tuscan cuisine — bistecca alla fiorentina, game, or aged pecorino — and will continue to evolve gracefully for 10–12 years.

      Buccia Nera

Buccia Nera is a family-run estate based in the hills of Arezzo, Tuscany, where generations of the Mancini family have cultivated vineyards around the Tenuta di Campriano property. The estate’s vineyards sit on limestone and clay soils at varying elevations, allowing a natural balance of freshness and depth in the fruit. Winemaking is carried out entirely on site, with each parcel vinified separately to preserve the nuances of the region’s native Sangiovese. The family’s commitment to authenticity and environmental integrity has seen Buccia Nera become a benchmark for modern, sustainable Tuscan production while maintaining a clear link to tradition.
