Brokenwood Graveyard Shiraz 1996
Sweet, raspberried, licoricey, honeyed. Oddly sweet and primary nose, with only a hint of the gravelly, dusty flavours to come. Palate is very dry, bordering on hollow. Overtones of ammonia. Chocolatey aftertaste – sound drinking but not special. This is supposed to be one of the classics – and I’ve seen better bottles. Was not on song on this day – such is wine. Better examples of this wine may well rate significantly higher. - Campbell Mattison, Wine Front
This is right in its ideal drinking window right now, a classic example of the power, precision and incredible length of great Hunter shiraz.
