Best’s Great Western Bin No. 1 Shiraz 2020
As one of Australia’s oldest and continuously family-owned and operated wineries, Best’s crafts extraordinary and iconic wines of elegance and longevity. Our flagship wine, the Thomson Family Shiraz, has an ‘Exceptional’ designation from the esteemed Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine and Bin No. O Shiraz is rated as ‘Outstanding’. Best’s has thrived under the stewardship of just two families since 1866. The founding Best family established the original Concongella Vineyard and today, their vision lives on through our family, the Thomson’s, having purchased the property in 1920.
The grapes for the Best’s Great Western Bin No. 1 Shiraz comes from the Great Western sub-region of Victoria. The famous shiraz grown in this area has been awards around the world since the 1890's. The selected parcels of fruit for this wine are carefully for chosen for their aromatics, medium-body, and textural property. The fruit was treated gently using traditional winemaking practices including the use of large format oak casks.
Bin No. 1 is a classic, cool-climate, aromatic Shiraz, made in a style that's floral, spicy and peppery yet retains generous fruit characteristics and intensity. It is a well-balanced wine where alcohol does not dominate. This is an elegant wine crafted to drink now, and makes a great accompaniment to food. The palate is elegant, yet flavour-packed, delivering punchy, mouth-watering summer berries and plums. Drink over the next decade.
This is a traditional Australian shiraz in the best sense, with a wealth of black, red and ripe orange fruit. Deep and rich, with a stunningly fine tannin structure and a lovely blood orange freshness at the long, structured and spicy finish. Excellent aging potential. Drink or hold. - James Suckling, 95 Points.
