Benjamin Leroux Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevières 2019
Few will need reminding that Les Genevrières is one of Meursault’s greatest terroirs, arguably the finest after Les Perrières. This is drawn from two old-vine parcels in the gravelly limestone of the lower part (dessous) of Genevrières. The two parcels add up to a single hectare, making this Leroux’s largest 1er Cru. Previous incarnations of this wine have been labelled Genevrières-Dessous. To avoid confusion with the Domaine bottling from Genevrières-Dessus, (of which there is none this year) now this wine is simply labelled Genevrières.
The 2019 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru, which will only be released in 75ml bottles, has a fragrant nose of dried honey, praline, hazelnut and orange blossom that gains intensity with aeration. The palate is quite lush and honeyed on the entry, though there is sufficient countervailing acidity and a delicate touch of spice toward the finish. Very fine. - Neal Martin, Vinous, 91-93 points
