The Pooley Chardonnay 2024 is a beautifully balanced expression of both tradition and innovation. Crafted with a combination of 65% French oak and 35% concrete sphere maturation, this wine achieves a delightful harmony between the richness of barrel fermentation and the purity of unwooded Chardonnay. The French oak barrels (15% new) provide a subtle complexity, while the concrete sphere enhances the fruit’s natural character, allowing the wine to showcase its abundant orchard fruit flavors—think crisp green apple, ripe pear, and subtle citrus. The wine is elegant, with a refined body and a gentle creaminess that lingers gracefully on the palate.
The 2024 vintage benefited from a mild growing season, where steady conditions allowed for a slow and even ripening of the fruit. Despite challenging conditions during flowering, with high rainfall and poor fruit set, the warmer, drier El Nino period that followed helped develop excellent flavor, acidity, and tannin balance. The wine underwent full malolactic fermentation, adding a soft texture and roundness to the finish. The result is a Chardonnay that balances fresh, crisp acidity with a creamy, refined mouthfeel, making it an elegant and versatile wine to enjoy now or in the years to come.
Food Pairing – Ideal with seafood dishes such as crab, prawns, or a delicate white fish. Also pairs wonderfully with roasted chicken or creamy pasta dishes.

Pooley Wines, established in 1985 by Denis and Margaret Pooley, is a family-owned vineyard that has grown to become one of Australia’s most acclaimed cool-climate wine producers. Situated in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley, the winery has flourished under the stewardship of three generations, with John Pooley expanding the estate by adding the Butcher’s Hill Vineyard in 2003. Today, John’s daughter Anna Pooley, an award-winning winemaker, leads the production with an eye toward tradition and innovation. Her meticulous approach to winemaking honours the family’s legacy while elevating Pooley Wines to new heights of excellence. Recognised as the 2023 Winery of the Year by Halliday Wine Companion, Pooley’s commitment to quality and family values is evident in every bottle.
At Pooley Wines, the philosophy is simple yet profound: to produce wines that are a true reflection of the land, climate, and vintage. The team’s commitment to sustainable viticulture and minimal intervention winemaking ensures that the purity and character of the fruit shine through in every wine. The winery prides itself on its ability to craft wines that are elegant, complex, and true to their terroir, while also pushing the boundaries of innovation to create wines that stand the test of time. By embracing the natural rhythm of the vineyard and working with the unique challenges each vintage presents, Pooley Wines crafts wines that are both distinctive and timeless.
