The 2024 No.12 is intensely perfumed with aromas of Kaffir lime and rosewater with the classical Eden Valley mineral accent of wet-slate. The palate is ultra-refined and exceptionally delicate, with slick and satiny texture. Exhibiting a symphony of zesty citrus flavours including Persian lime, yuzu and finger lime, combined with the sweet-floral pungency of fresh quince, the palate is grounded by a lick of flinty minerality with a sharpened steely edge. The crisp natural acidity imparts length and vibrancy, bringing laser-sharp focus to the driving, persistent finish. A standout of the 2024 vintage with both immediate allure and enviable aging potential.

The 2024 Rieslingfreak No.12 was harvested from the Lienert family vineyard in Flaxman Valley in High Eden, a premium sub-region of Eden Valley. Renown for growing world class Riesling of unrivalled elegance, this wine captures the very essence of the High Eden subregion in all its splendour. First released in 2021 to celebrate John’s achievement as being heralded as Barossa’s Winemaker of the Year, this wine celebrates the beauty of High Eden Riesling via a distinctive and highly perfumed bouquet, and elegantly structured palate.

From the Lienert family vineyard in Flaxman Valley, way up in the cool climes of the High Eden subregion of the Eden Valley. Fruit tones of freshly squeezed lime, grapefruit and lime with underlying citrus blossom, passionfruit flower, makrut lime, crushed quartz and stone. Some nice concentration here, but it's all about focus and tension, the wine tensing initially and releasing with a burst of limey fruit and a nervy mineral energy.

      RieslingFreak

Founded in 2009 by John Hughes, Rieslingfreak is a label born of singular focus and absolute dedication to one variety—Riesling. What began as a side project quickly became a benchmark for modern Australian Riesling, with John’s passion transforming into a full-scale collection now spanning over 19 distinct expressions of the grape.

From dry to sweet, sparkling to fortified, Rieslingfreak’s numbered bottlings serve as both a stylistic guide and a regional map, celebrating the unique terroir of Clare Valley, Eden Valley, and Polish Hill River. Each wine is crafted with precision and purpose, led by the belief that Riesling is one of the world’s most versatile and expressive grapes.

Together with his partner and fellow winemaker Belinda Hughes, John continues to push the boundaries of Australian Riesling. Drawing inspiration from German tradition and applying contemporary Australian winemaking techniques, the duo brings a balance of classic structure and modern flair to every release. Whether fermented in stainless steel or seasoned oak, each Rieslingfreak wine is a reflection of place, season, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
