Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2023 brings together Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz in a signature expression from Penfolds, one of Australia’s most established wine houses. Often referred to as “Baby Grange,” this wine draws fruit from select South Australian vineyards, matured in seasoned American oak barrels that have previously held Grange, lending both structure and familiarity to the style.

The 2023 vintage, presented in collaboration with Troye Sivan, retains the house style while introducing a modern artistic perspective. Cabernet Sauvignon provides framework and definition, while Shiraz contributes depth and richness, creating a balanced and layered profile. Dark fruits, subtle oak influence, and fine tannins shape a wine that speaks to both heritage and evolution within Australian winemaking. Each bottle is carefully hand wrapped in tissue paper printed with one of twenty images from Troye’s personal camera roll, making every piece a collectible keepsake. Made for memories and destined to be shared.

This release sits comfortably at the intersection of tradition and contemporary culture, making it equally suited to cellaring or immediate enjoyment. It pairs naturally with roast lamb, grilled beef, or slow-cooked dishes where depth and structure can be fully appreciated.

Deep crimson. Perfumed violet, praline, blackcurrant/blackberry aromas with inky/chinotto notes. Voluminous and sinuous with beautiful cassis, chinotto flavours, plentiful fine chalky al-dente tannins and well-balanced roasted chestnut/marzipan/vanilla notes. Builds up brambly firm at the finish. Lovely density, vinosity and flow. Drink now - 2045.

Always a star of the collection, year after year. Early complexity is very much evident, and will develop further in the coming years. Power, yes, but this also effortlessly elegant. Delicious now, this will surely drink beautifully in the next fifteen years, considerably longer if you really do have patience. Love it.

      — Ken Gargett, 96 points

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, showcasing the best of both worlds. Crushed violets, ylang-ylang oil, shimmering blackberries and blood plum and dark Ghana chocolate. The tannins are granular, and the mid-palate focusses on the oak spice and fruit. As time passes, the wine evolves, offering a new and interesting take each time.

      Penfolds

Penfolds has been a pioneer in the world of winemaking since its establishment in 1844 by Dr. Christopher and Mary Penfold. The company's success has been driven by a lineage of visionary winemakers who have pushed the development of the company to extraordinary, bold new heights. Mary Penfold's reign at the helm of Penfolds saw years of determination and endeavour, experimenting with new methods in wine production. In 1948, Max Schubert became the company's first Chief Winemaker and he propelled Penfolds onto the global stage with his experimentation of long-lasting wines - the creation of Penfolds Grange in the 1950s. Soon, the medals began flowing, and Grange quickly became one of the most revered wines around the world. In 2012, Penfolds released its most innovative project to date - 12 handcrafted ampoules of the rare 2004 Kalimna Block Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, Penfolds continues to hold dear the philosophies and legends that have driven the company's success since its establishment in 1844.
